Exceptional care is our aim, and we also work to create a welcoming, down-to-earth space that’s perfect for all types of patients.

What Is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is designed to fill the gap left by missing teeth, restoring both function and appearance. It works by placing artificial teeth, known as pontics, in the empty space. These replacement teeth are securely supported by neighboring teeth or dental implants, which serve as anchor points to hold the restoration in place.

At DeStefano Dentistry, we produce both traditional and implant bridges. Learn more about each type here:

With a traditional bridge, your natural teeth act as the supports for the artificial teeth, or pontics. Dr. DeStefano places dental crowns on the two natural teeth, allowing for new, artificial teeth to fill the gap of 1–3 teeth.

Traditional bridges work best for patients who have strong teeth on either side of the gap in their smile. These are the most common types of dental bridges.

Implant bridges are similar to traditional bridges, but they use dental implants as the support for either side of the bridge. If you have three or more missing teeth in a row, implant bridges are recommended, as they are strong enough to support all of the teeth.

Implant bridges also last longer than traditional bridges, but the process takes longer. First, the dental implant posts are placed and left to heal fully. This process can take around 3–6 months. However, once placed, the dental implants can last a lifetime.
