Dental Health for You & Your Kids

As a general family practice, we cater to patients of all ages, including your little ones, and are happy to provide children’s dentistry in Pittsford, New York. We invite you to schedule an appointment at DeStefano Dentistry for your child so we can help them learn about and care for their smile.

By taking your kids to the dentist at a young age, they’ll learn to feel comfortable with dental care, and you can teach them good dental hygiene habits to maintain a healthy smile throughout their lifetimes.

Dr. DeStefano and the team at our office want you and your children to feel comfortable and respected. We will do all we can to listen to and accommodate the needs of your family. Learn more by calling our office today to request an appointment.

Our Children’s Dentistry Services

Dr. DeStefano provides children’s dentistry in Pittsford. While we are not a pediatric dentistry office, we do offer the basics of dental care for toddlers, kids, and teens. You can also give us a call if you have questions or want to learn more.

Here are our most common children’s dentistry services:

During a dental checkup, Dr. DeStefano will look at your child’s teeth and mouth. A hygienist will also gently clean their teeth, especially once they are older than a toddler. Sometimes, we will take X-rays to ensure their teeth are developing and growing as they should.

Dental checkups usually only last about half an hour but are key for prevention.

Dental fluoride is a mineral that protects teeth by strengthening the natural tooth enamel. Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay and cavities. During a visit to our office, we will apply fluoride treatments. Fluoride is non-invasive, effective, and comes in various forms such as gels and foams.

Fluoride is left on the teeth, but you can brush your child’s teeth as normal later that same day.

A dental sealant is a thin coating that’s applied to the chewing surfaces of teeth. Dental sealants are helpful for children who may have a hard time brushing all the surfaces of all of their teeth.

During an appointment, Dr. DeStefano or one of our dental hygienists will apply the sealant using a brush. The sealant fills in small grooves in the teeth and prevents tooth decay.

Most children should receive dental sealants when they are around the ages of 6–12, or when the first and second molars grow in. They are an easy way to prevent cavities.
