What Are Dental Implants?

How We Restore Your Smile

Dental implants are the first step to a restored smile. Once the dental implant is placed and healed, a tooth restoration is placed. The tooth restoration is the “crown,” or top, of the tooth and is placed like a cap over the implant to mimic a real tooth. The restoration itself is custom-made to match your smile and can be used as a normal tooth.

DeStefano Dentistry provides CEREC dental crowns as the final step in tooth restoration.

The Case For Dental Implants

If you’ve struggled with dental problems for some time, we suggest you talk to Dr. DeStefano about dental implants. You may be struggling with:

  • Missing Teeth: Missing and major tooth damage can create chronic pain around the impacted area and your jawline. Live life free from chronic pain through tooth restoration.
  • Severe Gum Infections: Tooth and gum infections can spread fast to other areas of your grin. In some cases, extreme tooth damage may require a complete replacement.
  • Jaw Decay: The jawline often weakens with age, as with other parts of our body. Rejuvenate this area with the help of dental implants.

Why You’ll Love Dental Implants

It’s easy to take for granted the vital part our teeth play in our daily lives. Here are some day-to-day advantages that our patients have grown to appreciate from tooth restorations.

Reduce Pain

Life can feel draining at times, and tackling damaged tooth pain in addition can quickly make it hard to prioritize what’s most important. Dental implants can prevent jaw pain, gum sensitivity, or toothaches. You can think of getting implants as an investment in your long-term health and well-being. Your future self will be glad you did.

Articulation and Confidence

Eliminate unnecessary anxiety about public speaking by repairing damaged teeth that hinder your clarity and confidence. Injured teeth make it difficult to pronounce syllables that require you to place your teeth and tongue together, such as “sh” and “ch” sounds.

Prioritize Your Health with Tooth Restorations

Each tooth root works together to help your smile accomplish the tasks of the day. If one tooth root deteriorates, your entire jawline can deteriorate along with it. Decrease the odds of further damaged teeth and infection by taking immediate steps to solidify your oral health.

An essential key to feeling motivated to maintain a healthy lifestyle is spending consistent time improving it. Dr. DeStefano and our dental team are happy to help you feel accountable for your oral health.

Our Dental Implant Services

Dr. DeStefano is an experienced restoration dentist. As such, he provides many types of dental implants, including single-tooth implants, implant bridges, and implant-supported dentures. Learn more about each of these types of dental implants and how they work below:

Single dental implants are the most common type. For these implants, Dr. DeStefano replaces one missing or broken tooth by placing the implant post and adding an artificial tooth on top.

Single-tooth implants are the most straightforward. Sometimes, it’s necessary to get a couple of single-tooth implants in different spots. For example, if you have a missing tooth on your upper right arch and one on your lower left arch, two dental implants are needed to restore your smile.

Implant bridges are best for patients who have issues with multiple teeth in a row. With this treatment, Dr. DeStefano places two dental implants. After these implants heal, a bridge of artificial teeth is attached to the two implants on either side of the missing or damaged teeth. The implant bridge will “bridge” the gap in your smile.

Implant bridges work similarly to traditional dental bridges, but they last much longer and are even more durable without wearing down the teeth on either side of the restoration.

If you have issues with many of your teeth, an implant-supported bridge can restore your smile and improve your ability to do everything from eating to chewing to speaking. While traditional dentures have their place, they are often uncomfortable and not very sturdy.

With implant-supported dentures, you can have an entire arch or a full set of teeth replaced with around two to twelve dental implants. This process is known as All-on-X. Generally, you’ll need around 4–6 implants to support a full upper or lower arch, and around 8–12 to support an entire mouth of restorations.

After healing, the denture attaches to the dental implant, providing a beautiful, secure smile. These dentures can be permanent or removable.

Decades of Dental Experience

We love being able to work in the woodland oasis of Pittsford, NY, where the community keeps us going. Our team does what we do to serve you. To make our office a comfortable environment for our customers, here are some key benefits we offer at DeStefano Dentistry.

Dental Implant Technology

For all dental implants, Dr. DeStefano utilizes CBCT imaging technology, an advanced treatment tool for inserting dental implants.

This technology allows him to make surgical guides for ideal implant placement. Technological support during the procedure provides even more reassurance that the implant will remain strong long-term.

Emergency Dentistry

You may find yourself in need of a short-notice dental implant service. This is a common solution for sudden tooth trauma and knocked-out teeth. DeStefano Dentistry provides prompt service in these painful, last-minute moments with same-day appointments.

Be sure to give our office a call as soon as an urgent dental matter occurs for prompt treatment.

StellaLife Recovery Kit

The Stellalife Recovery Kit is an alternative approach for pain management. Rather than relying solely on painkillers like Advil and Tylenol, this kit provides a rinse, spray, and gel to speed up recovery. Whether you’re uncomfortable with pills or would like some extra help in the recovery process, this recovery kit has proven to be a unique perk for our patients.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental implants are the first step in a streamlined, multi-step process to fixing severely damaged teeth. To help you feel at ease during this process, we’ve listed some answers to common concerns below. Let our office know if you have any more questions or concerns.

Dental implants may not be available for patients with low jaw bone density or other oral health challenges. If dental implants aren’t right for you, Dr. DeStefano also provides alternative care, such as dentures, or can suggest procedures to prepare you for dental implants.

Many patients may just need an additional service to clear any underlying dental issues before they start treatment.

Your lifelong, full-body smile is our focus, and we will meet your needs specifically to make sure those symptoms are handled.

You may feel some slight discomfort as the implants get used to your jawline. This is only temporary, and you should be good to go within a few days.

These pain-relieving techniques can speed up the recovery process:

  • At-Home Remedies: Gargling salt water or applying an ice pack near the inflamed area are easy ways to manage pain symptoms.
  • StellaLife Recovery Kit: DeStefano Dentistry offers a specialized recovery toolkit to help patients experiencing dental pain after their procedure.
  • Pain Relievers: Common grocery store drugs are a quick, cost-effective way to manage dental pain. Tylenol and Advil are great brands to use, and you can rotate them to prevent discomfort as they wear off.

Since dental implants are placed in your jaw, they can last up to a lifetime with proper care and maintenance.

However, the restoration placed on top of the dental implant may need to be replaced from time to time. Scheduling regular dental check-ups will help our team notify you when those services need to happen.

Dental implants require just as much attention as your normal teeth. Once your smile has adjusted to the implant and crown, there are typically no additional considerations while eating, drinking, or socializing with others.

Here are some things to keep in mind to help your dental implants last as long as possible:

  • Stick to Regular Dental Habits: It’s important to adhere to the oral care basics even with dental implants. Brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash make a difference.
  • Schedule Biannual Dental Visits: Our team usually suggests that patients visit the office twice a year. These visits help us spot damage or infection affecting your implants.
  • Be Responsible With Your Smile: Responsibility and moderation are key when focusing on your oral care. Do your best to avoid situations that could severely damage your teeth.

Dental implants will require multiple dental appointments at our office. Our dentist will discuss your treatment plan with you as you progress through the stages of the implant process to monitor your oral health throughout. We invite you to ask questions before, during, and after treatments so you can stay informed about your care.
